My brothers and sisters, I
encourage you to bite constantly on the seed of faith. Faith is the daughter of wisdom, and the mother of
hope. It adds water for prayer, and it is governed only by the fire of love.
It is by faith that
the heart is disarmed and transplanted in love. It is not by sight that we walk, but by faith.
‘The
life of faith is nothing but the continual pursuit of God through everything that disguises, disfigures, destroys and annihilates
him.’ De Caussade.
‘There are three things, brothers and sisters,
three, through which faith stands firm, devotion abides, and virtue endures: prayer, fasting, and mercy. What prayer knocks
for upon a door, fasting successfully begs and mercy receives. Prayer, fasting and mercy: these three are a unit. They give
life to one another. For fasting is the soul of prayer; and mercy is the life of fasting. Fasting does not germinate
unless watered by mercy… for mercy is to fasting what rain is to the earth.’
Saint Peter Chrysologus
